The shape of the candle itself determines how the scented candle should and can be used.

Mold candles

Mold candles are those candles that can stand on a surface without any kind of holder or container. The waxes most often used for making candles from molds are paraffin, beeswax or palm wax. How does wax affect the effectiveness of a candle?

Behind the scenes of quality production scented candles there is a lot of knowledge of physical laws in nature. In order to avoid unnecessarily complicating things, we will simplify the story.

When we light a scented candle, the flame slowly melts the wax around it. The melted wax comes into contact with the wick in the candle.

You will notice that each wick has tiny coils on it in the case of a cotton wick, or tiny bumps in the case of a wooden wick.

It is with these coils that the melted wax due to additional heating rises to the flame itself at the top of the wick. The heat of the flame burns the wax, releasing gas.
This gas contains wax molecules and essential oil molecules that are used to make candles. Such released molecules in contact with oxygen from the air create heat, light, carbon dioxide and water vapor.

This principle applies to everyone scented candles, but the type of wax affects their quality and efficiency.

How to choose a quality wax for saints and which wax is recommended for a certain type of scented candle?

Paraffin wax

Although you know our opinion about paraffin wax, we must pay attention to it because this type of wax is still widely used when making scented candles.

One of the main reasons why paraffin wax remains popular in the scented candle industry is its cost. In addition to the low price, the advantage of paraffin wax compared to perhaps some other types of wax is its universality, so it can be used for the production of scented candles in molds as well as for scented candles in containers.

Paraffin candles don't have a good reputation for not being the best environmental solution. Paraffin is a product of the oil industry, which is known to have a huge impact on the environment around the planet. In addition, mineral waxes, such as paraffin wax, contain certain additives that are released into the environment during combustion. Some of these additives are toxic or carcinogenic. Therefore, the smell of paraffin candles is unpleasant compared to the smell of candles made from some other natural types of waxes.

If you have some extra money that you don't know how to spend, definitely don't spend it on paraffin candles.

Beeswax

Beeswax is a natural type of wax produced by bees. For the production of candles, beeswax has perhaps been used for the longest time compared to all other types.

Beeswax is produced in beehives, when bees produce honey. Bees have glands that secrete wax, which they then place in the hive to store honey. Because of this, beeswax has a natural and sweet smell when burning. This wax has a wide range of uses in candle making and can be used to make different types of candles than those in molds and containers as well as tea scented candles. The flame of a candle that burns beeswax is bright and clean, and the candle itself lasts much longer than candles made of paraffin wax.

In nature, beeswax is produced, but upon contact with pollen powder, it acquires a slightly yellow or caramel color.

In terms of strength, beeswax is much harder than paraffin wax, which is why it melts more slowly and candles made of this type of wax last longer.

The disadvantage of beeswax is its price. The high price of beeswax stems from the fact that it takes a long time for bees to produce a small amount of wax.

Also, beeswax is considered an animal product, so it does not fit into the vegan ideology and lifestyle.

Coconut wax

Did you know that there is coconut wax that is used to make scented candles?

Coconut wax is a vegan wax and a natural option for making scented candles. This type of wax is obtained by hydrogenation of refined coconut oil. You must be hoping that coconut wax candles smell like coconuts. In fact, coconut wax has no smell, because it is lost in the refining process.

Due to its mild and neutral smell, coconut wax accepts essential and fragrant oils very well because its smell does not affect the desired aroma. Also, since coconut wax is bleached in the refining process, it is very useful for coloring and decorating, because it shows colors well and faithfully. Coconut wax is a white canvas for the scented candle maker.

Coconut wax melts quickly, which can be an advantage or disadvantage, depending on the purpose.

As coconut wax melts quickly, it takes less time to make coconut wax candles. But, for the same reason, scented candles made of coconut wax last less and melt faster. Because of this, coconut wax is most often used for candles in containers, never for candles in molds.

Also, the downside of this type of wax is its price, which is too high for the average scented candle lover, especially if we consider the length of time.

Palm wax

Palm wax has a high melting temperature, which varies between 82° C and 86° C. The high melting temperature contributes to the long life of candles made from this type of wax. Palm wax does not melt during hot summer days, but easily retains essential oils. Also, palm wax is of purely plant origin, so it is also suitable for vegans.

Although it has many benefits and qualities, there is still one problem related to palm wax. The production of palm wax requires the clearing of tropical forests and the destruction of the environment in order to create palm tree plantations, which increases the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Although this product is considered vegan, the circumstances under which it is produced are against the principles for which vegans stand, among which is the preservation of the environment.

Keep this information in mind when you want to treat yourself to scented palm wax candles.

Rapeseed wax

Vosak od uljane repice iliti “canola” vosak je nešto novija opcija u odnosu na druge vrste voskova. Dobija se iz žutog cveta uljane repice, koja se uglavnom uzgaja u Evropi.

A good feature of this type of wax is that it is environmentally friendly.

Rapeseed wax melts at a low temperature, so the scent from this candle will be mild and pleasant, but it won't last too long.

However, bees love canola flowers, so we also give our recommendation for this type of wax.

Gel wax

Gel wax for scented candles is not actually wax. It is obtained by combining resin and mineral oils. It is similar to other types of wax in terms of melting and scent retention. The difference compared to other types of wax is transparency, which gives these candles a completely different dimension and appearance. Gel wax is often used to imitate water or other liquids such as beer or wine in some exotic and decorative candles.

Gel wax is most often used for votives or candles in containers. Harder varieties of gel wax are used for salon or mold candles.

Soy wax

Soy wax is definitely our favorite wax for making natural scented candles. Soy wax is completely natural and suitable for vegans. Soy wax is obtained in the process of hydrogenation of oil from soybean meal, and is considered an ecological alternative compared to traditional types of waxes and paraffin.

At its price, soy wax is competitive with beeswax, and in some markets it is even cheaper.
That's why soy wax is a good choice for making scented candles that can be easily afforded and are healthy and do not pollute the environment.

Soy wax binds essential oils very well, which in combination with the natural and pleasant aroma of the wax make a winning combination.
Soy wax candles burn slowly and have a clean flame, which sets them apart from other scented candles.

Our secret is that the scented candles we produce are made exclusively from pure soy wax and we do not mix it or combine it with other waxes.

In this way, we are sure that the end user will always have an equally pleasant experience, every time they use our scented candles.
