When making natural soaps using the cold process, oils and fats (the acidic part) are mixed with an alkaline solution (the basic part), which creates soap (which is actually a type of salt).<\/p><p>How does this chemical reaction happen at all?<br \/>To understand this process, we first need to explain\nwhat bases and acids are made of.<\/p><p>A base or alkali must contain one hydrogen ion. Most commonly, this is sodium hydroxide (alkaline water), which consists of one sodium ion and one hydrogen ion. When making soap, a base such as potassium hydroxide can also be used, which also contains one hydrogen ion. Its use is most common in the production of liquid soaps.<\/p><p>There are many different types of acids\nthat can be used in the saponification process.\nThese are often oils such as olive, coconut, castor, etc.\nEach oil has a unique combination of triglycerides.\nTriglycerides consist of three fatty acid molecules\nlinked to one glycerol molecule.\nThe amount of base needed for saponification\ndepends on the oil\u2019s composition and characteristics.<\/p><p>During the <a href=\"http:\/\/balavander.com\/en\/prirodni-sapuni-kako-se-prave\/\">making of natural soaps<\/a> carefully measured basic and acidic ingredients are mixed.\nDuring mixing at the appropriate temperature,\na chemical reaction occurs.\nTriglycerides in the oils separate from the glycerol molecule,\nwhich turns into nourishing glycerin.\nThis allows fatty acids to bind\nwith hydrogen ions from the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alkaloid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alkaloid<\/a>, creating soap.<\/p><p>If we look at this process in more detail,\nwe can conclude that in the soap-making process\nthere are actually two reactions.<\/p><ol><li><a href=\"https:\/\/sr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Glicerol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glycerol<\/a> from fats and oils turns into glycerin, which is extremely important and beneficial for skin care.<\/li><li>Elements of the base and the acid form a salt,\nwhich is actually what we call soap.<\/li><\/ol><p>Magic and science in one place. By using such soaps, we not only remove impurities naturally, but also release the beneficial oils trapped in the soap itself, thereby simultaneously nourishing and caring for the skin.<\/p><p>Our natural soaps, depending on the properties of the plant oils and butters used in their composition, have a superfat value <strong>from 7% to 12%<\/strong>.
